Before Wilson County had paved roads, it had Captain Will Wright — a Texas Ranger and fifteen-year sheriff who worked the so-called Bandit Wars, survived a knife attack on his own gallows, and spent a career running down the rustlers and robbers this stretch of frontier bred. This driving trail follows his beat from the Wilson County courthouse where his prisoners stood trial, south to a sister county's own 1915 jail, and back into downtown San Antonio, where the Texas Ranger Museum keeps the badges and guns of the lawmen who policed this frontier. It's outlaw history told from the other side of the badge.
