Most historic homes freeze a single moment in time. The George Ranch Historical Park, on the prairie south of Richmond, does something rarer: it tells the story of one family across four generations, from an 1824 Austin-colony land grant to a working cattle ranch of the 1930s, all on a single 480-acre spread that is still a real working ranch today. Costumed interpreters bring each era to life — the 1830s Jones Stock Farm with its gardens and outdoor kitchen, the post-Civil War Ryon Prairie Home, the elegant 1890s Davis Victorian Mansion, and the 1930s George cattle complex. Together they trace how a frontier homestead grew into a ranching dynasty, and how Texas itself changed around it. This driving tour orients you to the ranch and its four eras, then ties it back to the founding Jones family whose grant started it all. Note the park keeps set hours and charges admission; plan your visit and drive carefully on the rural roads.
