Angelo State started in 1928 as San Angelo Junior College, with 112 students. After World War II it moved to a new campus on the south side of town, where the first building went up in 1947. It became a four-year state school in 1963 and a university in 1969. This walk goes from the new Mayer Museum past the library and the Memorial Oak Grove, then to a chapel and bell tower built in the 2020s, and ends at the bronze sheep that stand for the Rams and Rambelles.

Newer landmarks carry meaning too. The 65-foot Housley Tower, dedicated in 2024, sounds its carillon at 11:48 a.m., the minute Angelo State College was created in 1963. And Raul Ruiz's life-size Rambouillet ram and ewe, set in a fountain of Pecos County sandstone, nod to the sheep-ranching country behind the Rams and Rambelles name and are a favorite photo spot.
