About this tour

On the morning of March 6, 1836, after a thirteen-day siege, Mexican troops breached the walls of a former Spanish mission and killed every Texian defender inside — and "Remember the Alamo" became the rallying cry that helped win Texas its independence six weeks later. This walk sticks close to the actual battle ground: the mission-turned-fortress itself, the exact spot where the final assault broke through, an irrigation ditch older than the fight, the 1936 monument built to honor the fallen, the grounds recognized as a historic cemetery, and the grand old hotel that rose next door and helped keep the story alive for the next century. It's less than a mile of walking on the real ground of one of the most mythologized days in American history — sorting fact from Hollywood along the way.
