Old Town Spring began life as a nineteenth-century railroad hub, a bustling junction that thrived until the line pulled its operations to Houston in the 1920s and, with prohibition and the Depression close behind, left the village to fade to a quiet settlement. It slept for decades before finding new life in the 1980s, when its century-old storefronts and Victorian homes were reborn as a shopping and dining haven. Today more than a hundred local businesses fill the historic district — antiques, home decor, women's and children's boutiques, art, and wine among tree-lined streets. This walk winds through the heart of the village, past the depot that started it all and into the specialty shops that give the place its old-town charm. There's no need to hurry; the district is made for browsing. Wear comfortable shoes and plan a meal — many of the historic buildings now hold restaurants and cafes.
