History
Miles Bennett (1816-1887) was born in Indiana and came to Texas with his family in 1834, later settling in what is now Anderson County. He served in the Texas army in 1836 and fought at the Battle of San Jacinto, and afterward served in the Mexican War and the Civil War. He is buried in Pilgrim Cemetery, where a Texas Centennial grave marker honors his service.
