History

Salado's Methodist congregation traces to an 1854 revival led by circuit rider Rev. Thomas Gilmore. In 1890 the congregation built a Carpenter Gothic sanctuary at Stagecoach and Church streets, distinguished by a steep gable roof, lancet stained-glass windows, and a corner tower with a conical spire. Designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1969 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, the 1890 sanctuary was moved and incorporated into new church facilities in 2005.
