History
The Czech Heritage Museum & Genealogy Center in Temple grew from a collecting effort begun in the 1960s by the SPJST, a fraternal organization founded by Czech immigrants in Texas. The first museum opened in 1971 in the new SPJST Supreme Lodge home office and moved to the building's basement by 1981; delegates voted in 2000 to make it a separate entity, and the current museum opened February 12, 2010. It holds thousands of Czech-Texan artifacts and one of the state's largest Czech genealogy libraries, with some 23,000 volumes.
