History

The entrance to San Antonio's Japanese Tea Garden (historically also called the Chinese Sunken Garden) in Brackenridge Park is a torii-style gate created in 1942 by artist Dionicio Rodriguez using his faux bois technique of concrete shaped to imitate wood. The gate is one of several Rodriguez works in the city added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 and 2005.
