History

Known as TexPop, the South Texas Popular Culture Center opened in May 2012 to document San Antonio and South Texas music, art and pop culture from the 1950s through the 1980s. The idea came to Michael Ann Coker after a visit with Margaret Moser of the Austin popular-culture center, and the museum's debut exhibit celebrated Tex-Mex musician Doug Sahm. It hosts exhibitions, workshops and panels featuring local artists and musicians.
