History

Built in 1889 to serve the King William area, this school opened as School No. 10 in 1893 and was renamed for Alamo defender James Butler Bonham by the school board in 1902. Designed by architect Emmitt Tuggle in the Victorian style typical of the neighborhood, it is one of San Antonio's oldest surviving school buildings and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
