History
The Fairmount Hotel was built in 1906 by local grocer J. P. Haynes for owner Veronica Felix at a cost of about $18,225, designed by architect Leo M. J. Dielmann as a modest hotel for traveling salesmen. In 1985 the three-story masonry building was moved roughly six blocks through downtown to a new site, earning a Guinness World Record as the heaviest structure ever moved on wheels, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
