History

The Yturri mill is part of the Yturri-Edmunds Historic Site, established on a Spanish-era land grant once belonging to Mission Concepcion and settled by Manuel Yturri de Castillo in the early 19th century. A gristmill has stood on the acequia-fed property since Yturri's time; the surviving structure was reconstructed in 1964 by Pioneer Flour Mills executive Ernst Schuchard and architect Marvin Eickenroht, retaining an original adobe wall and stone foundation. The adjoining adobe house and mill were designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1966.
