History
The ten-story Hotel McCartney in Texarkana was built in 1929 and named for prominent citizen W. A. McCartney Sr. Designed by Houston architect Joseph Finger in the grand hotel manner of the 1920s, the reinforced-concrete and brick tower drew on the Chicago School and long dominated the city's skyline. Declining rail passenger service and the shift to automobile travel eventually closed the hotel, which was later used as a film set and for storage; it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
