History

The Brazoria County Historical Museum is housed in the county's historic 1897 courthouse at 100 East Cedar Street in Angleton, a Romanesque Revival building of stone with arched windows and a central clock tower designed by architect Eugene Heiner. The museum collects and exhibits objects relating to Brazoria County history and is home to the Adriance Library and Research Center. Its extensive Austin Colony exhibit traces the area from its earliest inhabitants through Anglo-American immigration into Spanish Texas and the Texas Revolution, and it also interprets the enslaved people who worked the county's cotton and sugarcane plantations.
