History

Jordan Springs Cemetery is the surviving remnant of the Jordan Springs community, which lay south of Brownwood and by 1936 included a business, a church, several homes, and this burial ground. Much of the surrounding land was purchased by the U.S. War Department in 1940 — along with the Elkins and Indian Creek cemeteries — to form Camp Bowie, but the cemetery remained and holds roughly 400 graves.
