History

Mukewater Cemetery, about two miles west of Bangs off U.S. 67, began in 1883 on land belonging to the Brooks family within the Julian Hernandez survey. Covering roughly 4.8 acres, it holds several hundred graves, is overseen by a cemetery association, and remains well maintained by descendants of families who still live in the area. It was first surveyed in 1971.
