History

This cemetery is one of several burial grounds serving Prairie Lea, Caldwell County's oldest community, which was first settled in 1839 and named by Sam Houston for his future wife, Margaret Lea. The roughly three-quarter-acre ground on Callihan Road served the Mexican American families of the Prairie Lea area near the San Marcos River.
