History

The Baird Wednesday Club, a local women's civic club, established the Callahan County Library in 1937 and added the Pioneer Museum to it in 1940. The museum, in the basement of the Callahan County Courthouse, displays farm and ranch implements, household items, clothing, barbed wire, and historical documents. Callahan County was created in 1858, and its seat of Baird grew up along the Texas & Pacific Railroad in the early 1880s.
