History
The first Callahan County jail was a stone building erected in 1878 at Belle Plaine, the county's original seat. After an 1883 election moved the county seat to Baird, citizens there paid to have the stone jail relocated to Baird along with many residences from Belle Plaine. It stands near the courthouse square and was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1965.
