History

This burial ground is the community cemetery of Dimmitt, seat of Castro County on the Texas High Plains, which grew from a townsite laid out in 1890. Now known as Castro Memorial Gardens, it covers about 12.5 acres southwest of the city and holds several thousand graves. It remains the principal burial place for Dimmitt and the surrounding farming and ranching country.
