History

Pierces Chapel Cemetery lies southwest of Jacksonville near the Pierce's Chapel community on Farm Road 747. The community and its cemetery grew up around a Methodist church named for Bishop George F. Pierce, who preached there in the 1860s on his way to the annual state conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The cemetery lost most of its trees to a November 1987 tornado but remains well maintained.
