History

Chartered in 1971, the Collingsworth County Museum occupies three historic buildings on the square in Wellington, across from the courthouse. The Pruden Building houses the Ellis Art Center, while the Sullivan Buildings hold the main collection documenting the county's settlement around 1880. Exhibits trace the county from its Native American past through the era of large ranches and the homesteaders who arrived once barbed wire and windmills made family farms possible.
