History
Built about 1902 of reddish-orange brick with curvilinear gables and a Ludowici tile roof, this Gainesville depot served the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad during the city's era as a major rail center. Its first floor housed a Fred Harvey House restaurant until 1931, and in 1944 Gainesville was the eighth-busiest station on the Santa Fe. The railway deeded the depot to the city in 1981, it was listed on the National Register in 1983, and it now houses a branch of the Morton Museum of Cooke County and serves Amtrak's Heartland Flyer.
