History

The Dallas Coffin Company built this five-story reinforced-concrete building at Lamar and Bellevue streets in 1911, hiring the prominent Dallas firm of C.W. Bulger & Son to design a warehouse for its casket, hearse and mortuary-supply trade. The firm had relocated to the site in 1909, and after the coffin company closed in the late 1940s the building housed Reserve Life Insurance and later Sears before being rehabilitated into a hotel. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.
