History
The original Forest Avenue High School was built in 1916 in the Italian Renaissance style to serve the then fast-growing suburbs of South Dallas. Alumni of the school included retailer Stanley Marcus and television producer Aaron Spelling. Forest Avenue closed in 1956 and reopened in 1957 as James Madison High School; the building is a Dallas Landmark and was listed on the National Register in 1995 for its architecture and its role in the South Dallas community through World War II.
