History

The Titche-Goettinger department store chain was founded in Dallas in 1902 by Edward Titche and Max Goettinger and grew into one of the largest retailers in the Southwest. Their downtown flagship on St. Paul Street between Main and Elm, designed by architect George L. Dahl in an Italian Renaissance style with Art Deco interior detailing, opened in 1929 and operated until 1987. The building, now housing loft apartments and the Universities Center at Dallas, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
