History
Known affectionately as "Old Red," the 1892 Dallas County Courthouse was the county's sixth since 1846, four of the previous five having been lost to fire. Little Rock architect Max A. Orlopp Jr. of Orlopp & Kusener designed it in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, built of red sandstone with rusticated marble accents, with Robert L. James as general contractor. After decades of service it became the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture in 2007, and in 2024 the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals moved back into the restored landmark.
