History

O'Donnell Cemetery serves the town of O'Donnell, which straddles the Lynn–Dawson county line on U.S. Highway 87. The town was founded in 1910 by promoters of the Pecos and Northern Texas Railway and named for the O'Donnell brothers, incorporating in 1923 as cotton farming and ginning drove its early growth. Among those connected to the community was actor Dan Blocker, who played 'Hoss' Cartwright on the television series Bonanza and grew up in O'Donnell.
