History
Located at 302 N. Esplanade in Cuero, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum interprets the ranching and western heritage of South Central Texas, anchored by the story of Thornton Chisholm and Crockett Cardwell's 1866 cattle drive from Cuero toward Missouri. Authentic artifacts such as saddles, lassoes and a chuck wagon depict the great trail-drive era, while the Tinker Collection compares the Mexican vaquero, the South American gaucho and the American cowboy. Behind the museum stand the 1882 Proctor-Green House and an 1880s schoolhouse that once served as Cuero's original English-German school.
