History
Rowe Cemetery near Hedley was established in 1898 when Kentucky native Isaac Smith, host of the Rowe post office, set aside part of his land as a community burial ground after four Reedy children died. The community of Rowe was named for English rancher Alfred Rowe, who founded the nearby RO Ranch in 1880; when the town moved a mile southeast in 1907 to become Hedley, the cemetery kept serving the area. By 1999 it held more than 1,500 graves, including 32 victims of the 1918–19 influenza epidemic, and it carries a Texas historical marker.
