History
Copita Cemetery is the last remaining trace of Copita, a farming community that stood eight miles southeast of Concepcion in southeastern Duval County. Promoted around 1910 as a development of 'farm and garden tracts,' Copita gained a post office in 1911 and by 1914 had a general store, a cotton gin, a well driller, and a hotel. The post office closed in 1922, and as the town faded it retained only scattered dwellings, a Seventh-day Adventist church (Iglesia Adventista del Septimo Dia), and its cemetery. By 1990 only the Copita cemetery was still shown on maps of the area.
