History

The El Paso Holocaust Museum and Study Center is one of only about a dozen freestanding Holocaust museums in the United States and the only fully bilingual one. It traces its origins to 1984, when Holocaust survivor Henry Kellen began telling his story from a borrowed corner of the local Jewish Community Center; the museum was formally founded in 1994. After a devastating fire in 2001, funds were raised to rebuild, and the museum now occupies a purpose-designed building at 715 North Oregon in downtown El Paso's museum district, offering free admission and educational programming aimed at combating prejudice.
