History
The El Paso Museum of Archaeology presents the prehistory of the El Paso region, the greater Southwest, and northern Mexico from its home in Wilderness Park at the base of the Franklin Mountains. It opened in October 1977 as the Wilderness Park Museum within a 17-acre park and was renamed after extensive renovations in 2005. Its permanent collection reflects some 14,000 years of prehistory, and its grounds include roughly 15 acres of nature trails, outdoor exhibits, and a desert garden of native Chihuahuan Desert plants, with free admission.
