History

Clover Hill Cemetery, also called Lott Cemetery, was established for the town of Lott, platted in 1889 when the Texas Townsite Company bought land from George Gassaway along the new San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railroad. Led by Emily Peters Porter and Matte L. Dickson, citizens raised funds and chose a site blanketed with buffalo clover, giving the cemetery its name. The earliest documented grave is that of Confederate soldier Noble B. Rinker, who died in 1891; the Texas Historical Commission erected a marker in 2002.
