History
Clover Hill Cemetery serves the town of Lott, established in 1889 when the Texas Townsite Company of Waco platted the townsite along the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway. Community leaders Emily Porter and Matte Dickson organized fundraisers to create the town's first public burial ground, which took its name from the buffalo clover that once blanketed the hillside. The earliest documented burial is that of Confederate veteran Noble B. Rinker, who died in 1891, and a historically segregated section set aside for African American residents lies alongside it. Clover Hill Cemetery was designated a Historic Texas Cemetery in 2002.
