History
Carolina Cemetery is the surviving remnant of Carolina, one of the earliest settlements west of the Brazos River in Falls County. First known as Deer Creek when a post office opened around 1852, the community was renamed by settlers from North Carolina and became the site of the county's first Presbyterian church in 1854. After the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway bypassed the town, residents drifted away and by the 1930s little but the cemetery remained. Its graves include Confederate veterans and pioneer families, and the burial ground has been maintained since 1973 by the Carolina Cemetery Association.
