History
Although some maps label it 'Bictner,' this small burial ground is properly the Bittner Cemetery, located about 1.8 miles southeast of Holman off FM 155. It was begun by the family of Andreas Bittner, a Wendish (Sorbian) cottager from Wartha, Saxony, who emigrated with his children and landed at Galveston in December 1854 as part of the Wendish migration that founded nearby Serbin. Charles A. M. Bittner bought 285 acres from John T. Holman in 1881, and the cemetery holds about ten markers, including one for Andreas Bittner, enclosed by an iron fence.
