History

Williams Creek Cemetery, about five miles south of La Grange on the old La Grange–Weimar road, was originally called the Bluff Cemetery and was renamed in 1912 after the 'Bluff' name came to refer only to distant Monument Hill. The Bluff Cemetery Association, led by first president Carl Otto Jr., bought 2.86 acres from Hugo Lueders in a deed dated July 22, 1879, and sold lots by lottery for a few dollars each. The first known burial was Alfred Munke in June 1881, and some earlier graves were moved in from surrounding farms; the well-kept grounds now hold more than two hundred graves.
