History

Afton Cemetery is the last remnant of the vanished community of Afton in northeastern Fisher County, settled by the Afton family in the late nineteenth century. A school stood at the cemetery site about 1889, and the settlement peaked in 1892 with a school, church, and post office; the post office soon closed, and by the 1960s only the cemetery remained.
