History

Swedonia Cemetery is all that survives of Swedonia, a Swedish immigrant community in eastern Fisher County. Colonists from the Austin area relocated west in 1884, with J. J. Swenson surveying the townsite; a combined church and school went up in 1885 and a post office followed in 1886. The community faded after its post office closed in 1907, but its cemetery, west of Hamlin, still marks the settlers' resting place.
