History
Established in 1976, the Galveston County Museum cares for more than 25,000 artifacts and archives documenting the county's past and has been certified by the Texas Historical Commission to house state archeological collections. Located within the Galveston County Courthouse, its exhibits cover immigration stories, the region's military and gambling history, a Mardi Gras costume gallery, and prehistory. Among its most poignant holdings is a coroner's book from the 1900 Storm, recording the personal effects of unidentified victims.
