History
Michel Branamour Menard (1805-1856), a Canadian-born trader, was a founder of the city of Galveston and a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. This marker notes the site associated with his Galveston home; his surviving 1838 residence, the oldest building in the city, still stands nearby on 33rd Street. The 1936 marker misspells his name as "Michael Branaman."
