History
David Levi Kokernot (1805-1892), born in Holland, was a colorful and sometimes controversial figure of the Texas Revolution who joined James W. Fannin's company at Gonzales and served as a naval commander during the conflict. His sons Levi Moses and John William went on to establish large cattle ranches in Gonzales and West Texas. He died in 1892 and is buried at the family cemetery in southeastern Gonzales County.
