History

McKeller Cemetery, near Slayden in northwestern Gonzales County, is a historically African-American burial ground also known as the Slayden Black Cemetery and Canoe Creek Cemetery. Its graves date back to the 1800s, and it was surveyed and inventoried in 1993 by local researchers. It is counted among the African-American cemeteries of Central Texas documented by regional historical groups.
