History

The McLean-Alanreed Area Museum was founded in 1969 by two local women intent on preserving artifacts of the town and region. Located on Main Street in McLean, the last Texas Route 66 town bypassed by Interstate 40, it displays pioneer clothing, ranching tools, saddles, and recreated shops including a barber shop, dentist office, and newspaper office. The museum also interprets the German POW camp that operated near McLean during World War II.
