History

This cemetery is associated with the Shannon community and its Church of Christ in central Grayson County. The congregation first organized at nearby Locust Grove in 1871 and moved to its present site in 1873, becoming known as the Shannon Creek Church of Christ and serving both the Locust Grove and Shannon neighborhoods. The adjoining Shannon Cemetery holds the graves of families from this rural farming and church community.
