History

Ethel Cemetery serves the small community of Ethel, situated on Farm Road 902 about fourteen miles southwest of Sherman. The settlement grew up in the late 1850s as ranchers and lumbermen converged on the area, gaining a school, a cotton gin, and, in 1885, a post office named by storekeeper W. H. Burgin. Though the town has largely faded, its cemetery remains and holds several hundred recorded burials from the families who lived there.
