History

The Heritage Society was founded in 1954 by Houstonians who rallied to save the 1847 Kellum-Noble House from demolition. Since then it has rescued and restored nine more historic buildings, moving them into downtown's Sam Houston Park, Houston's first park, created about 1900 by Mayor Sam Brashear. The ten buildings, dating from 1823 to 1905, and a museum gallery hold more than 23,000 artifacts documenting Houston and Texas history.
