History

The Museum of Southern History grew out of a Confederate museum that benefactor Joella Morris established in Fort Bend County in 1978 to display Civil War artifacts she had collected. Renamed the Museum of Southern History in 1997 and moved to Sugar Land, it relocated in 2007 to Houston Baptist University (now Houston Christian University), joining other museums in the Morris Cultural Arts Center. Its collection chronicles Southern history from the colonial period through World War II and features an extensive display of U.S. and Confederate firearms.
